The mobile racers worth your storage this season

April 8, 2026 · Markus Vogel

Racing on a phone used to mean fighting the controls as much as the track. That's changed, and a handful of recent games finally get the feel right. We've been rotating through the best of them on the commute and have opinions.

The split comes down to control scheme. Tilt racers live or die on how forgiving the dead zone is, while touch-button games need big, clearly placed inputs. Neon Drift Rally is our current favorite because it does both well and lets you choose.

If you prefer precision over speed, look for games with a brake drift rather than pure acceleration. Drifting gives you a reason to read a corner instead of just holding forward, and it makes short tracks replayable.

One tip: turn off any 'auto-accelerate' assist as soon as you're comfortable. It feels helpful at first but it caps how expressive your driving can be. The good racers reward you for taking that control back.

None of these need a constant connection or an energy meter, which we consider a basic requirement now. Life's too short for a racing game that tells you to come back in two hours.
