Embercrown Saga
★★★★★ 4.5
Embercrown Saga leans into story, and it mostly earns the screen time. You build a small party of characters who actually talk to each other between fights, and the writing has enough humor to keep the serious beats from dragging.
Combat is turn-based with a timing element on attacks, so there's a little skill layered over the numbers. Party composition matters, and respeccing is cheap enough that you can experiment without dread. We kept swapping members just to see new banter.
It's a longer commitment than most phone games, but the chapters break cleanly, and auto-save means you never lose a thread. If you miss handheld RPGs, this scratches that itch well.
